• Inter Faculty Freshers’ Championship – 2018

Innovative solutions are required to engage young people in a new batch for sports activities when they footstep a new premise. By understanding these necessities the Department of Physical Education annually organized Inter Faculty Fresher’s Championship to encourage fresher’s students for University sports activities. In this year also, Inter Faculty Fresher’s Championship was organized by the Department including 23 sports events for men and women teams.   

It was held during   31st October to 30th November 2018 at Kuliyapitiya and Makandura University premises.

The Inter Faculty Fresher’s Championship - 2018 was won by the Faculty of Business Studies & Finance. The first runners up was the Faculty of Technology whereas the Second runners up was the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

  • Inter Faculty Championship – 2018

Inter Faculty Championship was held on 03rd to 14th December 2018 at Kuliyapitiya, Makandura University premises and Shilpa Shalika Sports Complex.

Twenty three sports events were conducted including Swimming (Men/Women) & Track & field (Men/Women).

The overall championship was claimed by the Faculty Business Studies & Finance while the Faculty of Applied Sciences won the first runners up. The second runner up was the Faculty of Technology.

  • Inter University Championship – 2018

The 40th Inter University Championships was organized by Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) from 05thMay to 28th October 2018.

Thirty four sport events were organized at different university premises and the Department of Physical Education of Wayamba University pioneered for organizing Inter University Volleyball Men & Women Championships.

It was held on 21st, 22nd & 23rd July 2018 at Indoor Stadium, Kuliyapitiya.

Achievements:

Overall Achievement: 10th Place among 14 National Universities

 

Champion – EMS. Upeksha - Inter University Track & Field Championship - (Long Jump – Women)

1st Runner up – Track & Field - (4 x 100 m – Women)

2nd Runner up – EMS. Upeksha - Track & Field - (Triple Jump – Women)

2nd Runner up – GACS. Wickramarachchi - Track & Field - (5000 m – Men)

2nd Runner up – MGSC. Gunasekara - Track & Field - (Triple Jump – Women)

2nd Runner up – KATDL. Kannangara - Inter University Wrestling Championship (70 kg - Men)

2nd Runner up – SANS. Jayashanka - Inter University Wrestling Championship (97 kg - Men)

Champion – WAA. Dilshan - Inter University Taekwondo Championship (54 - 58 kg - Men)

1st Runner up – EMRP. Bandara - Inter University Taekwondo Championship (80 - 87 kg - Men)

2nd Runner up– MLMY. Arafath - Inter University Taekwondo Championship (74 - 80 kg - Men)

During the year 2018, our students are participated in different comprehensive and recreational outside tournaments in the purpose of enhance their experiences and abilities.

Wayospins - 2018 - Invitational Inter University Premier Table Tennis Championship

"Wayospins" – 2018 - Invitational Inter University Premier Table Tennis Championship

The Table Tennis team of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka organized the Second “Wayospins” Table Tennis Tournament on the 17th  & 18th  November 2018, at the University Indoor Stadium, Kuliyapitiya. This Table Tennis Tournament was organized with the view of promoting Table Tennis among University Students, enhancing their skills and showcasing their performances at the University Table Tennis arena. Beyond that, It was to collaborate with the passed out university players and to gain the knowledge and techniques for the present and future players of the universities.

This tournament was organized with the guidance of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) and opened for all the present players of National Universities and invited the graduates for several event categories.

Highlights

We facilitate students for participating national and international competitions including South Asian, Asian and World University Games. 

Our Department is committed to building a healthier and happier workforce to the society.  Within that intend, we offered some comprehensive programs for both students and the University staff. 

 


  • Orientation Program

The orientation program is conducted for the new comers to deliver the idea on the scope of Department of Physical Education and further the vision and mission of the department, its career, accessibility in Physical Education activities and future benefits and trends in engaging sports activities in the University.
