Academic staff

The ELTU is still dependent on the four probationary lecturers, who were recruited before 2006. They have obtained postgraduate qualifications in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and successfully completed the training programme on staff development conducted by the Staff Development Centre of the Wayamba University. One lecturer has been awarded a scholarship by the HETC Project to pursue his PhD in TESL. However, the smooth functioning of the services extended by the Unit has severely been affected by the insufficient number of permanent academic staff due to the gradual increase of the student intake in both Faculties. Therefore, the Unit has to obtain the service of several temporary staff recruited from time to time to run its study programmes.

Non-academic Staff

Although the ELTU did not possess its own support staff at the beginning, it now has one computer application assistant, one office assistant, one clerk for the extension programme and several trainees from outside institutions.
