Foundation stones laid for the constructions of Wayamba University Township Development Project, under the patronage of Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha

The “Wayamba University Township Development Project” of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was inaugurated by Hon. Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksha on 27th December 2021 at a hybrid ceremony linking the prime minister’s office and the University premises. Commemorative plaque was unveiled through online technology from the Temple Trees office. The occasion was graced by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Education, Hon. Johnston Fernando, Minister of Highways, and Prof. Kapila C. Perera, Secretary of Ministry of Education, Snr. Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Members of Parliament and government officers. Foundation stone was laid for the new library complex by His Excellency Abdulnaser bin Hussein Al-Harti, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Sultan Al Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, Dr. Sanjeewa Bowatte, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Wayamba University, Hon. Dr. Gunapala Ratnasekeraa and Hon Samanpriya Herath the Members of parliament, Deans, Registrar and other members.

The Township Development Project implemented by the Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education under the grants of the Government of Saudi Arabia, aims to undertake major constructions to provide infrastructure facilities for students, staff and non-academic staff member community at both Kuliyapitiya and Makandura Premises of the university. The estimated cost for the project is USD 28 million with a targeted expenditure of Rs. 1942 million to Kuliyapitiya premises and Rs. 1973 million to Makadura premises and another Rs. 262 million has been allocated to buy equipment for the existing faculties.
